PLANT POWER: What you need to know about CBD with Matt McNeill
My Beauty Squad attended a delightful breakfast at Homegrown for KLORIS, A company that uses the power of nature to help heal.
It's all in the plant science. At Kloris they spent good time researching and searching the world for the purest CBD and have respected the Earth by extracting it in the most sustainable way.
We got to sit down with Matt McNeill, Director and Co- Founder of Kloris to ask him a few burning questions about this revolutionary new product.
What are the main benefits of CBD in general?
Because CBD is quite unique in the way it reacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, it’s got unique properties in actually helping your body to achieve balance across a range of different functions. It exhibits and works for things like appetite and mood to inflammation and pain management, it helps your body reach homeostasis. So Cannabis actually helps your body to help itself, which is why it's such a unique compound in wellness and health. It's triggering your body to help itself in a way the body needs.
So CBD even though it derives from Cannabis, is actually a molecule that interacts with your body's endocannabinoid system which is so named because the molecule from the Cannabis plant are direct analogs of your body's own chemicals. It’s producing all the time which is what makes it a very unique substance.
What are the benefits of using CBD in beauty specifically?
In beauty the main benefit of using CBD is when it's applied topically to the skin, so it has a very potent anti-inflammatory effects but also anti-oxidant and anti-aging effects as well. It helps in things like reducing redness but also providing a barrier for pollution and daily stresses.
It's very calming for the skin, so helps with things like locking in hydration as well. When applied I would say the key benefits are the anti-inflammatory properties which I know is best understood so aids redness. We’ve also got people who say its actually helping with skin conditions such as Psoriasis and Eczema because its calming for the skin.
Is it natural?
Yes. It's readily absorbed through the skin and has a high efficacy when you’re actually applying it to the skin. So you don’t have to work hard to get it into the skin.
What is the correct way to buy CBD?
Always make sure you’re going to reputable brand for CBD who is publishing their lab test results for their product so you know what you’re getting is what you expect. Make sure they’re also clearly stating how much CBD you’re getting in the product. A lot of brands are positioning themselves as though they were CBD but actually it's only Cannabis oil or Hemp seed oil which has no CBD in it. Unless you’re seeing that the label says CBD on it and states the amount, I would be very wary and it probably has no CBD in it at all.
My Beauty Squad were lucky enough to get a goody bag to try and test some of Kloris' CBD products!
I have also incorporated the CBD Superboost Face Oil into my skin care routine. It's super hydrating and feels so luxurious. It sinks into my skin and the smell is not overpowering which I really appreciate. It's also great for anti-ageing and acts like a barrier against everyday environmental stresses.
